Week 9: How should you approach building a startup?
Startup mindset, Content creation and Drop-out story
One lesson: Execute first, think later.
Jay Joshi1 is the Co-founder of TheSocials, whose previously worked for companies like CRED, CoinDCX and more. Here’s what he had to share:
“The world has convinced us to be prepared but I see people around me spending just too much time preparing. Startups are hard. there is no right or wrong answer. There is only execution.
Take an idea → Plan minimal viable product/service → Reverse engineer the input (see how others are doing it) → Build → Sell → Track → Improve”
Here’s how he did with his startup: He knew he wanted to do something on hiring side. Asked people in his network if he could help them hire. Sold them the process. Got a client onboard and solved hiring for them. Continued to improve his service one step at a time.
One marketing insight: 3 content pillars every D2C brand should have
Behind the scenes2 - Share what’s going on, how’s the product being made, your team, your values, and more. The content is original, authentic and builds connection
Founder-led story - Share your journey, transformations, your obsession. The content is not only authentic, but inspiring as well.
User-generated content3 - It’s fun, relatable, involves the audience, great for product feedbacks, and wants you to be part of the community.
One thought: To become an entrepreneur, have a skillset to sell
My neighbour’s son graduated from his school about 6 months back.
Speaking to her one evening, she told me how times have changed.
She wanted her son to hold off on college, learn a skill, figure out what he likes and then take up a degree.
She said, a degree provides you with education but doesn’t prepare one for the market.
Her son, right now is interning as a chef at Paul’s.
It was just crazy how she thought of the world.
We need more risk taking parents like that.
